I was born and raised in the Snohomish County area of Washington State. I have three older brothers, a wonderful wife and a 20 year old daughter who is currently in college. When I was very young, my older brother started a home building company. I immediately took interest in their impact in communities and began working for him. I went from laborer, to painter, to framer, and at nineteen years old went to work for his architect designing homes. In 2002 I established my own Architectural Design and Land Planning firm. I have been lead designer in the land planning design of three master planned communities including their design standards and CC&R’s. Today I specialize in production housing design and high end custom home design and plan development. My wife is a third grade school teacher. We have been lucky enough to own a home in Vistancia for 11 years now.
Do you currently or have you previously served on a board or committee?
I am currently serving on the Design Review Committee.
How will you be able to put aside personal biases and desires to make decisions for the betterment of the entire community?
Decisions should be based on information gathered from other board members, the management team and most importantly the homeowners within our community. The board serves those homeowners and as such, the community’s best interests should always be the foundation for every decision. I feel it is important to remain impartial regarding procedures and regulations while always taking a fair and balanced approach.
What is the most important issue facing the community in the next two years?
The most important issue facing the community will be the successful implementation the community’s new strategic plan with the other board members and the management team. This plan establishes the vision of the community and will be the foundation to success, continued growth and profitability.
What can the Association do to help maintain or improve current property values?
Keep the community current. Continue to maintain and enhance our common areas and facilities to the highest standards. Ensure to foster and maintain the current feeling of community and friendliness that makes us feel proud to be a part of our community. This can be done with proper planning and establishing realistic and achievable goals and objectives for our community. Maintain positive communication and partnership with our government services to ensure a safe environment to live in.
What are the three most important ways we can increase the sense of community in Vistancia?
• Ensure we are implementing strong plans to ensure continued growth and success within our community.
• Continue to maintain and enhance our common areas and trail systems. Given the wonderful environment and weather condition in the area we live, these areas allow residents to be outdoors and meet their neighbors.
• Continue to provide and add new activities for all ages. Our community currently offers a vast array of activities providing opportunities for residents to come together and get to know one another. This should continue to be encouraged.
How do you feel about the collaborative-partnership approach between the Board, community members and the management team? What would you do to support and/or improve these relationships moving forward?
I feel this approach is critical. We will always get more accomplished successfully as a team. As a business owner, I have always preached everyone needs to feel they are an important part of the team. A collaborative partnership is meant to combine efforts and resources as a more effective and efficient way to address common problems. To maintain a collaborative partnership, it is essential each partner not only be kept informed of, but also that each partner has a say in decision making. These partnerships should be allowed to evolve in response to changes within the community over time so as to prevent them from becoming stagnant. In short, communicate.
