Summer Safety Reminders

Posted on May 21, 2018 at 10:05 AM by Adam Rosen

As we head toward the summer break, the Peoria Police Department would like to offer some information and reminders to ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer. We encourage parents and guardians to discuss safety and the following items before summer break.  As always, you can contact the Police Department with any questions.

Everyone enjoys being out and about in the evening hours, but please be safe and remember the City of Peoria has a curfew law (Peoria City Code 13-71). Peoria officers will continue to enforce these laws throughout the summer.   The law prohibits teens from being in public during certain hours, seven days a week unless accompanied by a legal guardian. It is also illegal for a parent and/or guardian to allow a minor to be in public during curfew hours.

15 Years and Under: 10 p.m.-5 a.m.

16 – 17 Years Old: Midnight-5 a.m.

This time of year, we very often see a rise in underage alcohol offenses whether it is at parties or behind the wheel of a car. The Peoria Police Department is committed to the safety of our youth and will continue to aggressively enforce all liquor laws. Please remember that providing alcohol to minors is illegal. It is also illegal to host parties where underage consumption is occurring, and the homeowner can be responsible for any civil actions.

It is illegal for anyone under twenty-one years of age to possess or consume any amount of alcohol.

All DUI laws also apply to minors and even one drink can result in an arrest.

We understand that teens are excited to drive, but please remind your teen that safety is most important!

Give your full attention to driving

Wear your seatbelt

Watch your speed

Do not text or allow any other distractions while driving

Do not drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol

Together we can ensure a safe and enjoyable summer for everyone in Peoria!
