PEORIA, Ariz. (Jan. 30, 2020) – 2020 marks 100 years of library service in Peoria, Arizona. Themed “100 years of stories,” the year-long, activity-packed celebration kicks off with Bravo Peoria on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sunrise Mountain Library, located at 21109 N. 98th Ave.

“Peoria’s libraries have long served as a place of learning, exploration, growth, and excitement,” said Mayor Cathy Carlat. “As we celebrate 100 years of service, it’s incredible to see how our libraries have remained active and relevant by diversifying their inventories and offering creative programs for all ages. Our libraries are a tremendous point of pride for Peoria.”

Bravo Peoria is a free annual event, held in partnership with the Friends of the Peoria Public Libraries, with a special Roaring 20s theme this year for the centennial festivities. Attendees can win prizes, get henna tattoos, make crafts, browse the book sale, check out the reptile adventures, watch James the Juggler and play on inflatables. Additional outdoor activities will be at Camino a Lago Park next to the library. All funds from the book sale will be reinvested in the Peoria Public Library System for future activities and events for residents.

“Libraries are a community hub and a place for learning, leisure, social interaction, personal growth and community improvement,” said Nathaniel Washburn, Peoria library manager. “Libraries are helping to make a smarter, stronger and more educated community. We have entrepreneurs, educational learners, casual readers and tech users all using our spaces and amenities to improve their quality of life. We’re excited to celebrate 100 years in Peoria.”

Both the Peoria Main and Sunrise Mountain Libraries will be hosting themed bookclubs, reading programs, games, movie nights and more to celebrate the centennial. While supplies last, residents can replace their library cards for free. For more information about Bravo Peoria or the other centennial celebrations, visit www.peoriaaz.gov/library.
